I have been thinking about putting tabs on my '91 22' Outrage. The problem is that I have Whaler Drive. Does anyone know of a product thaat can accomplish this without recessing them into the WD? I think that would be more trouble/expense that any benifit that the tabs would give.

Thanks,
Brian

OutrageMan,

Hi, I'm Thomas and I work for Bennett Marine in the Client Service department.

This question has been asked before in an earlier thread, of which I can not find anymore! Tabman (Tom McGow) answered it then and stated trim tabs can be installed without recessing them into the WD. In fact, there was a photo of a trim tab installation with it, which I will try to find. As soon as can I will let you know where the thread is and post it here. Also, I will be happy to work with you to make the installation as painless as possible, so please contact me at trimtabs@earthlink.net so we can get started!

I look forward to your reply.

Sincerely,
MJ Thomas

OutrageMan,

This is the thread I was talking about;
http://continuouswave.com/ubb/Forum4/HTML/001231.html, and looks like you are already aware of this one. Also, you check out the photos at the link; http://continuouswave.com/whaler/reference/engineBrackets.html. You will see an Edgewater that has the actuators mounted thru the bracket, which could be an option. Really, if you have some photos of your setup it would help me to better understand your situation. Please direct them to trimtabs@earthlink.net and I will see what we can come up with.

I look forward to your reply.

Sincerely,
MJ Thomas

What about using a cavitation mounted hydrofoil like the Doel-Fin? I've used them in the past and know others who have used them with good results. I've also seen some test data that confirms these devices can reduce time to plane, allow the boat to plane at a lower speed, and in some cases actually improve cruise performance.

I know that trim tabs on Whaler Drives have been discussed numerous times before. I believe the concensus was no way on a Whaler Drive on the 20-25' hulls.

Well, never say never. Check out the picture in this ad. adcache.boattraderonline.com/6/5/2/41311452.htm .

Of course they wouldn't work with twins. I'm actually surprised that they work with the kicker.

It's the hull transom where they can't be mounted. The 27 WD models had tabs factory mounted under the rounded corners of the Whaler Drive. My assumption is that BW did not think it necessary to use tabs (stern lifters) on the 20-25 Whaler Drive models, as the bracket already accomplishes that function.
