I just installed a new 0 - 30 psi water pressure guage on my 70 hp 1999 OMC. Really not hard to rig; there is a hole already tapped in the water chamber for this purpose, the plug comes out with an allen wrench, and the supplied brass 1/8 in thread fitting with a barb on the other end threads in. slide on the little rubber hose, run it up the tunnel and up to the guage itself in the console. The directions say to drill a hole and tap threads on it if you don't have one already. The kit came with other types of fittings if you need them for Yammy, Kohatsu, HOnda or whatever.
Anyway, I tried it with the muffs on in the driveway first: 10 psi at idle. In the water at idle 15+ psi; at operating speeds, about 25+ psi. The guage is 0 - 30 psi, so it's sized just right.
The whole idea makes me feel better knowing that there is water under pressure in the water chamber. Also I think I can monitor impeller wear and head off gradual failure since I now have a baseline for what the pressure ought to be.
