The previous owner of my 15 whaler left the aluminum sternlight in the bracket for at least the last 10 years...as a result the 2 have become one....I hacksawed off as much of the pole as I could but the lower portion of the bracket still has a nice chunk of the light pole imbeded in it....I have soaked the darn thing in every potion known to man and still cant shake it loose...any ideas?

Cliff, if you can remove the whole thing, try heating the remainder of the pole with a propane torch. this will sometimes cause it to srink up enought so it can be removed.
just my two cents.

I just went through this operation today. I took both brackets off off of the boat, then cut the pole flush with the top and bottom of each bracket. I put some heat on the bracket with a propane torch and then, using a small chisel (1/4"), I basically peeled out the aluminum stuck in the bracket. I cleaned out the remaining corrosion with a round file and polished the inside with emery cloth. It came out fine.
