I need to mount midship cleats on my classic 16 Nauset. I want to mount them just below the top of the gunnel and just ahead of the aft most staunchion of my bow rail. The plans show only foam and glass inthat area without wood backing. The cleats will be used for alongside towing / springs so will need to be backed. I have some SS plates. What I was wondering is would the old style bow rail thru hul backing that was used in the 70's work for attaching the cleats to. These were about 1" x 4" and had two threaded studs that passed thru the hull fromt eh outside and the bow rail bracket bolted to them from the inside.

If this would work, does anyone know where i cna find these fittings?
Ron

They still use them. Needed one for my 17' $17 at any dealer. They have to order them. They are chrome plated brass.
