I'm going to install a mechanical fuel guage on our 1984 22 O/R with the 70 gallon built in tank. The electric sending unit is currently cover with a tan colored deck plate. I'm looking for a clear approx. 8" clear deck plate.It's my understanding that the Beckson or Bomar don't fit the deck flange of a PHYI.My perference is to find a clear plate someplace rather than replacing the entire unit. Any suggest or idea's?

In the latter, bigz asserts that the PYHI (Bowmar) plates are readily obtainable. I'm not sure that's true but I hope it is for your sake. I tried for years to find a replacement clear plate for my 1983 Outrage, but without success.
Did you finally resolve your fuel supply/motor problems?

Not in clear -- white, stark white and black -- Beckson has clear -- Z

I had the same problem replacing the PHYI inspection plates in my '79 Blackfin.
Although advertised as the same O.D., the Bomar plates actually measure 1/4"-3/8" greater in diameter. No trouble reducing same on a square wheel or with a sanding drum chucked in a drill press, but a bother when they are supposed to be the same size.
