I need to buy a new prop for my 1987 Johnson 175. Can anyone offer advice / guidance? I use my 1986 '20 Outrage in coastal New Hampshire and Maine, and with the currents up here, you can't have too much power. I appreciate any input, thanks! |

With 175-HP and a 20-Outrage, you should be into the 40-MPH-plus bracket. If top speed is important you should consider a Stainless Steel propeller. The rocky coast of Maine might augur for aluminum, however, to make a little play on words. Do you have the dimensions of your current propeller? And the Wide Open Throttle (WOT) engine speed (RPM)? With a 14-year-old engine you probably want to avoid over-propping and lugging, so I would recommend erring on the side of too little pitch. |

A 19" SST II prop would be about right. Here's one for sale: http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1038103266 |

BK, If you decide on S/S prop, I have an extra 15"X 17". If you can use it, I will ship for $165. This prop came off an 18' OR, I moved up to a 19" for better top end. Jim |
