Hello All,
I wasn't sure which forum to put this question under, but I guess here is as good as the General Forum.
I am toying with the idea of purchasing a Mako Magnet/ Tuna Teaser for chasing the elusive finned creatures this summer (see www.makomagnet.com ). I have heard good things about their performance, and apparently they can be used when trolling, especially if they are mounted inside the boat (see http://www.makomagnet.com/fs-product.htm ).
The basic idea of the unit is that it generates low-frequency vibrations (probably between 20 and 300 Hz), such as the sounds made by something splashing in the water, to attract larger fish.
On our 25, we have a transducer mounted on the hull, close to the bow (essentially in the bottom of one of the front hatches). This transducer is always underwater, even as we run.
The "transducer" of the Mako Magnet also (obviously) needs to be "below the water surface", but... I quote a small piece from the previosly mention website, "A method we’re investigating is to run a bead of quick dry 5200 on the flat surface of the unit. Allow some water to collect in the bilge area (about 3-4 inches). While placing the unit in the flooded area, rotate the unit to allow trapped air out from within the underside. Once that’s done, sink the unit, apply some weights on top to make sure you have a tight seal, TURN YOUR BILGE PUMP ON, and allow the 5200 to dry (about 24 hrs)." When talking with the magnets creator, I explained the foam construction of BWs and he seem to think that if I don't mount it, but let it sit over an open drain plug, where the hole is filled with water, it should work, possible a bit better because the energy is "channeled" through the drain tube.
So, does anyone out there have any words of advise??
Thanks in advance!
Mike
