I recently picked up a very nice 11 Sport sans-steering (wire) cable, tensioner, and tiller pullies (the ones 'at' the motor). The three transom/corner mount pullies are there and the springs (rusted to junk) have already been tossed into the box of never to be used whaler parts.I am pretty sure that a upgrade Morse/Teleflex NFB will be 'NFG' on this boat unless someone with similar experience can tell me how they did it. The transom notch and bowed transom design of this hull make it darn near impossible to see how the tilt-tube could be used to anchor a NFB cable. The (new) motor is a Merc15. I am not too keen on a transom mounted anchor as I do not think there would be enough room to bend the cable. So that leaves me with a plea for advice from someone who suceeded in refitting an 11' Sport steering with a NFB system, or, help in finding the missing parts would be greatly appreciated. I need whatever is supposed to connect to the motor, the two tiller pullies, some new tensioner springs, and whatever else I am missing. thanks in advance.

dcattley,The parts you need are readily available at most any chandlery like West Marine or Boat US. Manufacturers include Perko, Wilcox Crittenden, ect. |

I would not go NFB on an 11' but I would get a cable type steering and get rid of those pullies. |

Same type just not NFB. No kicker is gonna pull enough for NFB. Get the Teleflex cheapo with the helm($130) or so. Anyone know what size cable is used on 11's? I think 8' is the smallest. That might be an issue and you might have to run pullies. |

Thanks. I missed the difference (in branding?) skimming the Morse/Teleflex data. Do you have any ideas on how to deal with the position of the tilt tube on the motor? Am I stuck with using a transom clamp/tube combo? -dc |

dc,Skip the mechanical steering and its headaches. Since you are already set up for it just rebuild the cable/pulley steering sytsem. It will be less expensive and will actually work better. |
