I beach my boat often. The keel is getting beat up and I need to repair the gel-coat. I saw a product called keel [guard] in Overtons. Does anyone have any comments about this product? I would like to know if it is easy to install. How does it look and is it going to work? Thanks John

Here are some threads on the subject. After reading these, my conclusion was to sand the damaged exposed glass on my keel and install the Megaware Keelguard. See http://www.keelguard.com/ That another on my long list of things I need to do.

Here are the treads:

I missed the middle step there, and that was to repair any place that the gelcoat is worn down to the glass with Marine Tex first, then install the keelg uard.

Hello all,
I took delivery of our boat with minor repaired keel damage(appeared to be voids and poor previous owner trailer mounting) and no bottom paint, at the end of last summer. I plan on some beaching and some running aground while on plane:). Incidentally, it sat in salt water with no bottom paint for quite some time with no ill effects. Prior to painting this year, I will have an 8' Hambys Original installed over the next week, that's if my trailer makes it to the shop tomorrow. Not a do it yourself project as a Hambys rep must install it. I'm told that it will remain in the "strapped on" form/mold for 48hrs and should stay out of the water for another 48. I am going to ask them to take some pictures for me that I hope to share. Solid Urethane over an inch thick at its meanest. Any bottom paint Urethane issues I should be concerned about?
Thanks
Chap

The MegaWare Keel Guard is a do it yourself project. It is not difficult but requires patience and following the instructions to the letter. Haven't seen a Hamby's but have seen many of the MegaWare and they work great for less money.
