When I aquired my 84 Montauk two years ago,the steel gas tanks the previous owner had used left rust stains on the deck. A friend suggested I use sno-bowl toilet cleaner to remove the rust, it worked well! On another application I left the sno-bowl on overnight, too long. The rust is all but gone, but the blue color of the product is now my new stain!Does anyone know how to fix this problem? Any help would be great. I now have two plastic 12 gallon tanks.

I trust you are all nearing the end of your research on this matter. I am awaiting a response with scrub brush in hand. Thankyou

Oh yeah, I've been working hard on this, trying out this or that :)

Its too late now, but Barkeeper's friend would have been a better choice for the original rust problem, and might not be a bad choice now, either. Usually this is considered to be a product that won't do much damage, and seems to have some magic properties.

research complete--use ON and OFF--strong enough to bring tears to yure eyes and make you cough, but takes off rust stains and, they say, safe for gelcoats.

Worked miracles for me, I was a doubter before I tried it

report on (ZAP!) professional restorer for porcelain, fiberglass, tile&grout. I got this stuff at costco for the baths. as I looked at the lable I thought it might work well on the fiberglass boat also. well it did a fine job on the 2x2 foot deck that I tryed it on. also tryed it on the side of the inside of the hull, I just could not see any improvement there. I didn't have and stains to try it on. but it took the squid ink right off. so would I use it again? yes. but I well say do not go buy some, but if you have some give it a try.
