I have seen whalerboard mentioned here in previous posts but where the heck are you buying it? I contacted Boston Whaler about WhalerBoard and this is what I got back as a response:

========

"I'm afraid Boston Whaler does not sell Whaleboard (a phenolic material)...sorry. This is a resin/fiberbased composite that is used in the molding process to back up (reinforce) the installation of hardware
such as cleats, etc.
From what I understand, the manufacturer of this Whaleboard cannot sell this particular material to anyone other than Whaler."

====

This stuff sure sounds alot like SeaCast.

Hi, Whalerron.

Not at all like seacast. More like phenolic board, but very strong and everything-proof.

The maker is Richlite (richlite.com). It is a member of a family of composite materials that can be machined like wood, holds threads like metal and costs a LOT.

Richlite can sell you Whaleboard in 4'X 8' sheets, or, if you are only repairing bad screw holes you can ask for samples. I used one 2"x3"x1/2" sample to cut 8 plugs for that purpose.

Don't screw wood screws into it. It holds too rigidly and the heads will snap off. Drill it and tap it for machine screws.

BW's standard fix for the broken screw heads on Montauk bow rails is 1/4"x20 machine screws.

JB- The more info the better and I'm sure the information I drew from my memory originated from one of your posts. So I believe you, not me, deserves the kudos.
Thanks

Hi, Seattlerocket.

Whaleboard and Starboard are not even remotely the same.

Starboard is a plastic, Whaleboard is a phenolic resin/fiber composite.

Each has its applications.
