where these cables go into the motor, the tubing has seperated and craked away exposing the metal lining and the cableby about 1/2 inch. Calked it last year. Is it difficult to order these, snake them back to the shifter and swap them out. Its a 90 88 spl. would appretiate any advise on where to and how to or recommendation that this is a mechanic required repair. |

GET NEW ONES YESTERDAY! That thing will corrode and snap and always at the wrong time. You have not had fun until the cable snaps at WOT or shift snaps while docking. They are only 430 or so each(do both). Take out your shifter and connect new cables to it. Then tie the new cables to the old and pull from the transom.....viola! |

Thats's $30 not 430 each. Anyone will have them I believe 18' is what you need. |

I just replaced both of these cables on a friend of mines Montauk. It is really easy to do. The length we used was 20 ft. so it had about a 2 ft. loop at the transom going into the engine. This is what my Montauk has and what was recomended by my Evinrude dealer. Joe |

I just did mine and i think my steering cable was a 17' and my controls were 18'.....anyone know for sure? They say it on the cable also, sometimes in feet, sometimes in inches. |

Bigshot, I do not know how long the steering cable is exactly as I have never had to replace mine on the Montauk. I do know that the Throttle and Shifter cables are 20 ft. long on my Montauk and on a friends I just did a couple of weeks ago. Here is a photo of my installation. http://www.sisqtel.net/~jkriz/Montauk/montauk.html My Evinrude dealer recommends a 2 ft. loop so the cable will not bid up in a turn. Regards, Joe |
