I have a 91' johnson outboard on my montauk and I would need to replace the prop/hub as the engine is reving up, but there is very little propulsion. Was wondering if anyone has suggestions about the best way to install a new one. Thanks.

jojoscoot ,

Are you asking how to replace the hub in the prop or how to replace the prop itself.

The answer to the former is to take it to a prop shop and have them put a new hub in it for $50-$75. You'll have them balance and true the prop while its there too.

The answer to the latter is to remove the cotter pin, unscrew nut and slide thrust washer and prop off. Reinstall in the reverse order.

Thanks Tom. I have a question though. Based on what I said in my intial topic, is it just the hub that needs to be replaced or the prop?? Because physically the prop itself looks find, and I have not hit anything with it.

what he is saying is take it to a prop shop and have it re-hubbed. it does`nt matter if you hit something or not, spun is spun. steve out.
