My new prop arrived in the mail today and having never changed a prop before I thought I would solicit advice. The concept seems simple, Take off the nut, take off the prop, put on new prop, tighten nut, but I am sure there are some tricks that will make the job easier. What type of wrench is best? Socket (size?) or do I need a "prop wrench". Can I change it while the boat is on the mooring? or should I haul it? Do I need any other equipment? I will be swapping props this weekend and want to make sure I have everything I need on hand. It is a Mercury Optimax 150. Thanks in advance.

BillD, should go just as you stated, if, the previous owner?, removed the prop twice a year and lubricated it. If not, search in this section for a thread called, "frozen prop". It will offer good advice for you. Good luck. Chris |

Thanks, I hope it does not come to that, services was done by the dealer before so I hope it was lubed regularly. Does anyone have a good idea on the size of the nut? The boat is far from a good store, so I want to buy a new wrench before I get down to it. |
