what can anybody tell me about this engine? I am in the process of buying this style. i heard that this particular engine had problems with the oil injection system. that it sometime would shut down at times without warning and cause severe damange to the engine. Can anybody give me some valuable input Thanks alot

on the upper right of the "forum" screen, change "last 10 days" to longer period and scroll down or do search for "VRO".

therein you will find many discussions, little consensus, but plenty to let you make your own decisions.

There's an upgraded pump, VRO 2, that has been installed on these models. It'll cost you about $150, plus labor.

Kenyon- I've got a 225 Johnson, 1989. Same as yours with rebuilt powerhead. I premix and love the knowledge that my chances of lubrication disaster are minimal. Also, I run Texeco Havelin 2 stroke oil. Half the price of the Johnson/Ev stuff. These engines thrive on 87 octane gas as well. I know guys with brand new Yam 4 strokes and Bomb Fichts and they look at my oldish engine and say, just keeps ticking doesn't it. Yup, when I can use it as an anchor we repower. .03 David
