Can any body help me please. I have a 1987 45hp Merc Outboard and I need to shorten the shift cables. I beleive they are Morse type. Can they be shorten and if so how do you go about it. I thank you for any help you can give me.

Ted, no way to shorten other than to form a loop to take up excess)to my knowledge! Most likely new cables are only solution... Clark

Just do as Clark says and wrap them(not too tight and wire tie until you need to replace. If you can put it somwhere unnoticable even better.

New cables are between $19 and $29 from 7' to 24' long from www.surplusunlimited.com

Fairly inexpensive to replace.
