I recently bought a '74 Montauk. The bottom has been painted perhaps numerous times. Is it possible to remove the bottom paint? I will most likely be trailering the boat, but it will be used in salt water. It has blue color under the bottom paint. What might be the best action?

try a paint remover called peel away. its the cleanest way to strip a bottom. You can save a few bucks by getting it at your local paint store instead of your local marine store. |

If you plan to strip all they way to the gel coat, test it on a small area and watch the time you leave it on. I have had Peel Away remove small dots of gel coat on boat 5 years older than yours. |
