I recently bought a '74 Montauk. The bottom has been painted perhaps numerous times. Is it possible to remove the bottom paint? I will most likely be trailering the boat, but it will be used in salt water. It has blue color under the bottom paint. What might be the best action?

try a paint remover called peel away. its the cleanest way to strip a bottom. You can save a few bucks by getting it at your local paint store instead of your local marine store.

If you plan to strip all they way to the gel coat, test it on a small area and watch the time you leave it on. I have had Peel Away remove small dots of gel coat on boat 5 years older than yours.
