Im thinking about cutting down on the height of my bow rail maybe six inches. My ? is the uprights on the sides have small angles bent in them at the ends.Do I have to rebend the angles in the pipes to make them work?
Thanks john

Yes, but even then you will have a hard time refitting the rail because the measurements will change and the fittings will be in the wrong place.

Masswhaler,

Greetings from Duxbury, MA. I think you and I are working on similar boats right (16' blue interior) and I had the same thought to bring down the height of the bow rail.

I spoke to the guy at CMI who manufactures these rails and he said you would need to put the little bend back into the support legs and also that the lowering would require moving the attachment for the "hockey sticks" or side peices.

I think if you were to change to angle of the bend on these "hockey sticks" to be not as dramatic you could do it. I am still in the process of checking out local shops who could do this kind of work.

My thought was to lower not only the front rail, but also the two side rails as they seem too high also. These should be fairly easy to do, but the front rail is a little trickier.

I'll let you know if I find anything further out on this.

Regards,
Rich

I lowered the rail on my 15 CC by a couple of inches and also added two more uprights. A good mod.

My question would be....what railing do you have? If you have the welded bow rail you have to cut from the bottom which will interfere with the hockey sticks. If it is not a welded railing, just cut 6" from the top. I can cut and debate it very often but man is that stuff a bugger to drill once you cut the rails.

What would the implications for any canvas fittings be if you lower the rail? Whould that change a standard Mills piece into a custom job? If so, what dollar range does that run?

Take that back....my 89 is welded.

My Mills is cut around the railing but I would assume it would make it more baggy, might not effect the way it works but will be baggy.
