Hello,

For my 1965 16' Sakonnet:

Who Has, or knows for sure, what the original style and color of the factory installed Ritchie compass was. Chuck Bennet of Boston Whaler just told me they used a red "Explorer" flush mount model. I would sure tend to believe him, but just wanted to get some more input.

Thanks

It's red in all older brochures

Red Ritchie Explorer, Flushmount. I have one on my boat(1970 Nauset). Mine has a date of manufacture stamp of 1968.

I bet they are a tough one to find.

I take that back... The style is more like the deck style. The compass is latched to a plate that is screwed to the console.

Optionally, lighting is provided by a bulb carrier in the mounting base.

I would love to get a spare housing, as the plastic is very brittle. I wonder if Richie would be willing to make a few for us?

There is one on Ebay at the moment. Just type in "Boston Whaler Compass"-I have the black plastic shade part but it is cracked (as stated very brittle)-it is lighted with a red bulb-Good luck, Steve.

Steve, I saw the one on eBay, and it is a later style. The unit mobey is looking for is all red plastic. I will take photos and post later this week.

mobey,

Yes, the removable Ritchie “Explorer” with the red plastic housing is THE compass that Whaler offered in the 1960's
