I've asked this before and never got a definitive answer. What length cable do you need for a 16'? Thanks.

I installed a 17 foot steering cable on my Eastport and it fit fine.

I just replaced the cable on my '86 Montauk (16',7") with am 18 foot teleflex cable. It fit beautifully.

Kingsteven18,

You don't mention which 16' you have. This makes a difference as to what Console you have on the boat and the length of the Steering Cable.

As DanT mentions, for the Eastport, he installed a 17' cable and it worked just fine. I would also imagine the Nausett and the Sakonnet would use a 17' also as they have the same, if not identicle, console.

As 15to17 points out, the 18' is what is used on the Montauks as their Cosole is a little different from the above models.

I would also think the length of the cable would be different from the ones above on the Tashmoo, Katama, Currituck, Bass Boat, as these consoles vary in size and placement on the boat.

Which model do you have?

It's an oddball. '65 I was told it was some sort of 'commercial' interior from the factory. Rather plain, boxy, grey painted console and bench. Well made. No windows. Factory steering wheel. If someone bought a bare hull and did it, they did a nice job. Steering wheel is in a similar position to the regular consoles. I mounted a NOS Suzuki DT65 on a CMC trim and tilt unit so it is set back 4 or 5 inches. Hull is super-mint condition. Hope that helps. Steve
