I am currently in the process of refinishing my 1985 15ft. I have to disconnect my teleflex to free the starboard teak on my 15ft (it runs through a hole in the teak). How do I disconnect the teleflex from the motor (70hp yamaha)?

aphand, use the search function to find threads titled "steering replacement" or "teleflex steering" and you'll find good info therein.

At issue in the past has been attempting to remove the steering rod from transom mounted outboards as opposed to jackplate mounted outboards. Apparently, it is quite difficult to pull the rod out of the motor's sleeve without running up against the starboard gunnel.

Perhaps you might review the connection at the helm and determine that to be the easier position of disconnect.
