I have read alot on the board about refinishing wood and Interlux Schooner is a popular varnish. In the Interlux brochure they recommend their Goldspar varnish for high-wear areas. Any opinions on which would be better for the board seats and other wood in a 13 whaler?

I used something like 12 coats working from the dilute up to full strength of the Goldspar on a red oak bench I had made for my "Montauk." I did the job knowing it'd be replaced after a few years with an RPS, but after 2 seasons it's kind of hard to imagine the boat without it. I'm very pleased.

Goldspar is a bit tougher than Schooner. However, it comes at the price of less flexibility.

For the seats that flex under weight, I would use Schooner - and at least 6-7 (preferably 10 or more) coats including the first 2 that were thinned 50%.
