I have just noticed a small crack in the propeller housing of my 1990 130hp yamaha. Nothing is leaking and the engine, when last used (11/02), ran very well. What do I do? Should I take the lower unit off and have the crack welded?

If you live in the north country and if it had water in it, the winter freeze may have cracked it. Take it to a specialist and have it repaired. They have to know what they're doing or you could be replacing the case. Prop repair specialists may know something about this. |

I have the same thing on a CV85 Yamaha. The cause is the corrosion of the screw in "prop" spacer ring. It corrodes and expands which causes the crack. The way I was told to fix by a couple of mechanics was to get the ring out and then drill a small hole to stop the crack from going further, then I used JB weld to fill the crack and repainted. Seemed to work just fine and since my motor is 1989 I will probably be in the market for a new one soon anyway. Good luck. Chris |

Yup...drill a small hole(if you think you can) and epoxy with JB, should last another 10 years. |
