I have a 16' wooden boat that a man makes locally here in Alabama. It is avery nice boat and I have had it for years but it has always had a two stroke 25. This year I purchased a Yamaha Four stroke 25. Now hte boat will porpoise at high and sometimes at medium speeds. I have moved the 6 gallon tank to the front but makes no difference. Will a hydrofoil like a stingray help? If so which is the best? Thanks!
(Sorry about the non-whaler post)

Hi, Stauter.

I use a SE Sport300 on my Montauk. It has reduced porpoising significantly.

I had a McKee Craft that porpoised really bad. I talked to the factory and they suggested mounting the motor on a wedge so that the foot of the motor was closer into the boat. It worked - no more porpoising.

I think that they are both great ideas and cheap solutions. One member here came up with the good idea of going to the outboard motor grave yards in your area to get a doelfin or similar for nothing or very few bucks. I would try the doelfin idea first because it very rarely hurt anything.

Try the doel-fin, it should work.
