Topic: Tranducer sweet spot for Outrage 22 single/notched transom

I took my '89 Outrage Cuddy for a spin last night, and my first stab at locating the Garmin 240 sounder/fishfinder transducer left me with intermittant signal. Any Outrage 22 owners that have found the ideal location, please let me know and save me from a lot of drilling and filling. I suspect I am a bit far off the centerline, a location I chose for avoiding trailer bunks. Any help is appreciated. I will also try to drop it down a bit, although it is right at the 1/8 inch below hull as the manual suggests.

I have a 1970 21' Outrage and went through the same problems with the transom mount. A bronze thru hull transduce solved the problem. |

Had a similar problem on a SeaRay Laguna with a notched transom. I finally got a good signal by mounting the transducer down in the notch. That boad had a flat pad keep in the stern about 8" wide. Mounting the transducer on the step of that lower notch to the far right finally gave me a good signal. I could never get it to work good mounted on the higher stepped up transom, too much aeration there. BillS |

I have PHAT fingers this monday and can't type worth a darn. "The boat had a flat pad keel" is what I meant to type. |

Andy-I've got a triducer for my Garmin 235 on my 22 that reads good for me up to 50 mph that I know of, as long as the water is relatively smooth. I think I have a photo of the installation that I'll e-mail to you if i can find it. |

Kingfish, I'll look for that photo in my e-mail--Thanks! My unit is a Garmin 240 that was absolutely terrific on my Montauk, so I'm sure it's just a matter of getting the transducer mounted in a "happy place". |

Mine works good where it's mounted. You can see some pics here http://briefcase.yahoo.com/reelescape1 if you want some measurements, e-mail me. |

Andy- Where did you have the transducter mounted on your Montauk? I have a Humminbird that fails to read at 20mph+ and sprays the engine while doing so. It's currently located on the starboard side where the bottom flattens out.I'm going to relocate...where? Thanks in advance, John |

Transducer mounting? Would love to see some pics and feed back on this for the 17 Montauk. Currently I have created a portable from an old trolling motor bracket that is mounted on the stern like a kicker. I simply put it down while trolling and pick it up when running but would love to have it permanant. |

On my Montauk, the transducer was mounted about 1" to the right of the port side sponson. This gave me great results with a Garmin 240 sounder/fishfinder. |

I used the port side on the Montauk because the kicker is mounted on the starboard side. On my Outrage, the transducer is on the starboard side to avoid the kicker on the port side. |
