Would a Johnson 70 4s be too heavy at 359#. My other choice would be Evinrude 75 2s w/ dfi at 369#. Anyone out there have a hull like mine that can report on the hull's static trim (does it sit nose high?).

I'm enticed by the new e-tec but the wait would be too long.

Go with the 70 4 stroke from Johnson/suzuki. Several people here think that it is the perfect combo for your hull. Also for more power go with the 90 DI evinrude and not the 75hp. The 90 and 75 are the same motor with just different computer programs. So if you are going with the 75 may as well go with the 90. But the 70 4 stroke should be fine.

I love my evinrude 70 4 stroke(same engine in blue). I have it on a 5" jackplate spinning a 17" SS prop and she goes 39+. Holeshot is very good but if waterskiing is your gig, then get a 90 Ficht. The weight is not an issue, I have 20lbs of lead shot in my front hatch and it keeps my drain ports above the water. Gas milage is sick. I avg about 1.25'gph per tank. I swear that someone puts gas in this thing at night because it does not burn any. Get the Johnson, you will love it....whisper quiet.

Well, I was all set to run down to the Johnson dealer and write a check when my bud reminded me of Bombadier's announcement of internal retructuring. Huge clouds of doubt suddenly swirled, clouding my vision, making it difficult to write that check. Would that warranty paper be any good if something happened to that brand new motor? I'll be visiting that Mercury dealer tomorrow (they close Mondays). Their 7 year warranty beckons (if I buy before April 15).

The Bombardier news is actually positive, not negative. Please read the facts on this site.

Consider this another vote for the Suzi-made DF70 4 stroke.

It is the best outboard I have ever owned.

My Montauk 17 does not sit nose high. I also recommend a jack/setback plate. Mine is 4"

Red sky at night. . .
