1985 Montauk, new battery, can't get power tilt-trim to work or igntion. Checked both 5 AMP fuses on console all OK. Can't raise engine therefore can't trailer to repair shop. Any ideas? I have a feeling it is something basic, just can't find it.

bhoctor,

You don't mention what engine you have...
Most engines have a 20 amp fuse located under the cowling. If this fuse has blown, you will get the symptons you describe.

Check your owner manual...

Most power tilts have a manual bypass valve you can open to allow you to manually tilt the engine

I had the same thing happen to me one time after reconnecting my battery. Turned out to be a poor connection from the battery cables to the battery terminals. If you haven't already, get a set of the lead terminal connectors for the battery cables. I believe they were only 5-6 dollars at Auto Zone and I feel the engine turns over on ignition better as well.

The two factory fuses on the console are probably not related to tilt/trim. One is for the running lights, the other is for an accessory. Mine runs the fishfinder.
