See the Reference section for an example of a Pate Plastics tank that fits under the seat. The tanks are not "mounted" in the usual sense, but are typically just held in place by a strap or a bungee cord.

There are plastic tanks that may fit, too. In some cases to get more clearance there is a replacement cap with a lower profile that can be substituted. These caps are sold at WAL-MART.

If you raise the seat you will find it to be more comfortable and you can put any size tank you want under there.

If you find one that fits under the seat I'd like to know. The Pate tanks fit but they are really expensive.

You will likely lose the storage under the seat and some of the storage behind the seat back.

I have seen a couple of whalers in the area that have put the under seat tank under the foward seat rather than the rear. I do not think I would want to take up the floor space in the event I wanted to remove the foward seat. I have been looking at a portable tempo tank that that holds 13 gallons in the shape of a 6 gallon portable only deeper.I am thinking that may be the way to go so as not to loose storage under rear seat.

I just ordered the Tempo 650020 14.5 gallon under seat tank for my 15' sport. I have 10 inches clearance after a mod to the seating, and the specs say that it should fit, cap and all nicely under the seat.

In response to the concept of losing space, yes you lose it under the seat, but it opens up the rear quite nicely. I really hate having those two 6 gals. hanging out back there. And, most important to me, it redistributes the weight forward.

I think a net gain, all-in-all.

I would like to hear others thoughts who have gone this rout.

With my 15'_Sport rear thwart raised 2", I have fit two Attwood "Gas-Scan" 6 gallon tanks, AND the battery, ALL under one seat. Then, mounted to the bottom of the seat is a 3-way valve to select the tank you want to run from. Cost for tanks: $22 each (locally). No fuel gauge necessary, since you can see through the tank.

On days when I want extra weight forward, I can un-strap one 6 gallon tank and plant it in the bow. When I want to fill an empty 6 gallon can, I just carry it to the station.

I don't know the exact space under the seat in a Super Sport, but for my '82 15 Sport I purchased an 18-gallon Tempo tank that slides right under the rear thwart. I don't think it will fit under the seats that sit on the fiberglass "lip" around the hull interior, but latter-model Sport seats sit on top of the wood side pieces. My own seat has been raised 2 to 3 inches for comfort, so that leaves more room, but this tank would have fit with the factory confirguration.

Putting the tank under the seat freed up plenty of room in the back of my boat, and it shifted needed weight forward.

15 Super Sports have storage under the rear thwart seat. There is not more than a couple of inches of clearance between the bottom of the storage bin and the cockpit sole.

I'm thinking of installing a similar tank on my '89 Supersport. If possible, would you please send me tank details and installation photos?

Thanks,

Dan

I was wondering if your super sport had the storage compartment under the rear seat and if you plan to remove it, or cut it up and make it shallow.

I looked into a tank replacement for my 15ss. It all seemed so complicated, unless you are a woodworker. I will be using a 12 gal. compact tank from tempo which will fit nicely into rear well. Not enough weight to worry about. Just drop it in. cost about $65. jonha

well i started to instal my tempo 14.5 gallon tank.first problem doesn't fit under seat.solution raise seat.i raised the seat level by an inch, but also kept the original storage compartmentinwhich the tank is hidden.i also enlarged the left and right supports this way i also enclosed the baterryin a seperate compartment and also had room forstorage.i will be taken photosto show on how this looks in the near future.i also removed the front lower seat, and replaced with a sheet of starboard, this way i can stand up front for flyfishing, but also have the option to remove the board and replace with front seats.the only problem i'm having now is how to latch the two compartments.
