I have a 97 Merc. 4cyl 135hp I/O. It died on me the other night on the lake. The starter just seems to be clicking. A fully charged, brand new battery just will not turn it over.
Anyone have any advice on what might be the problem here? Any info is greatly appreciated, thanks!

I had the same engine but it was a 1996.
I also had the same problem as you and it turned out to be corrosion on the battery cables. They didn't look bad but I wire brushed them and it started right up.
