I've been using that new decking material they have out now made out of a mixture of recycled plastic and saw dust. I replaced alot of the wood around my console on my katama with that. Also some of the wood was rotting out around the base of the console so I scraped it out an cut the board to form and popped it in there with some 3M glue. Another good material are those plastic cutting boards that are about 1/2" thick. I used them to level out the front of the console so my cooler won't be teetering all trip long. I also am making a bracket out of this that my tacklebox will fit snugly into. I know my boat, when I'm finished with it will be far from a classic, but I'd rather her be as practical and efficient as possible. Gives me a woody just thinking about it. Flukes and Stripers forever.

Some fellers here say t' try Woody Wax t' keep that thing clean and shiny.Your post made me think o'what Mrs. hooter gives me f' breakfast most mornin's. She and the damn doctor's in cahoots, been so f'years. Cer'al's full o' wood pulp and wheat chaff, is all. No fats, carbohydrates, heavy metals or nutrients in it whatsoever. Keeps a feller un-plugged though, and that's a good thing at mah age.

Bang, I'm thinking of raising my console a few inches using the plastic/wood/no-rot decking material. I believe that it would be cheaper than mahogany and Starboard, and easier to get than Whaleboard (Richlite). Do you think it would work well for that purpose? Would it hold 1 part poly. paint?

The cutting bord material differs from "Starboard" in that it has no UV stabilizers. After a few years out in the sun, it will get very brittle. I know this from the cutting boards use on my fish cleaning table. BillS |

Moby....I dunno I didn't paint it. What color were you going to paint it ? They might have something that is close like something that looks like fake lumber with grain and etched and darkened in. That stuff should be UV resistant. Look around there are several manufacturers. Check on the web.bs....did not know that. They look like one and the same. Well I keep my boat covered and when I'm using it I'll have my tackle box sitting on it so theoretically I should be ok. I was thinking to make a swing back for my cooler using a material along these lines so I'll either use that decking material if i can find the right configuration or some of that Starboard if its hard enough. Thanks for the info. |
