I have the standard whaler swim platform on my Dauntlass 15 and 24 Outrage. The platform is coming off the 15 for sure as I am planning on installing a pair of smart tabs. This boat has a tendency to porpoise which I have neutralized with the application of a hydrofoil. However, I cannot get the trolling speed slow enough to catch the walleys here on Lake St. Clair so I wish to install a "happy troller" in lieu of the hydrofoil. My dilema is this, the swim platform is bolted on and sealed with 3M 5200. Once the bolts are removed the platform will still be well attached to the transom with the adhesive. I plan on using a carpet knife to slice thru the initial seal around the platform, but how should I proceed to remove the platform from the adhesive which is surely layered between the platform and the transom? Any suggestions are appreciated, thanks.

leapinlunker - any plans for what you are going to do with the platforms once removed? I might be interested in one of them for my Outrage.AL W. |

Ok, so I got the swim platform off. Used some new stuff that made the 5200 turn to putty, a razor knife, a heat gun, and a pry bar. Now my problem is that the gel coat broke away from the glass at each screw hole. How is the best way to repair this? |

What will you do with swim platform? I could use it on my Outrage 19. (Please auction platform on Ebay since I am second person to ask about it. [grin]) Kevin |

I wouldn't install a happy troller on your Dauntless 15 if I were you. I had one and it made my D15 and it porpoised like crazy! Took it off and it did wonders! The happy troller won't perform like a hydro-foil. In fact, it'll make it worse than not having one. But if you still want one, I'll be glad to sell you mine. |

Boatlife makes a product called Release which is supposed to soften adhesives like 5200. It may take more than one application to work properly. |

I tried the "5200 release product" .... when I used it, the 5200 won the battle. Maybe your luck will be better. |

Gosh I love a good product. 5200 does just what it was designed for, it holds and holds and holds. It's not often we can depend on products to do what they say they will...like the "Release" product, they must have forgot about 5200 when they tested it.Just the lowdown sticky...boys. WhalerGoFar |
