I am installing a 70 hp.Evinrude(suzuki) on my 1986 Montauk. Where is the best mounting location for a fuel filter? Thanks

Royce,my filter is mounted on the splashwell, directly above where the fuel line exits the tunnel. There is just enough room for the stern seat to clear it in this location.

Macman said it all, mine is mounted on the forward side of the splash well as his is.
I am sure I have a picture, let me know if you want it.

I've got the 70 Evinrude on my 1979 Montauk. You're going to love it.

I mounted a Racor filter on the front of the splashwell as others have done. In two summers I've seen zero water. I use a 27 gallon Tempo tank under the RPS.

If I was doing it again I think I would forget about adding a filter and depend on the filtration for particulates that is on the engine. I'm confident that is enough...Bob M.

Mine is mounted on the inside of the gunwale just astern of the battery, strikes me as a good spot also, since the space behind the battery is hard to use for other things. The fuel line then goes to the engine with the steering cable.

In the splashwell, I cut a piece of ss and bolted the housing to it, then used the motor mount bolt with a second nut to hold it in place.

Thanks all--The motor is going on today. I will look again at all of the above options before deciding.
