I was lucky enought to acquire a power trim and tilt unit for my 74 Katama with its 75 Evinrude. The install looks pretty straightforward, except the set back is about 4.5 inches and the teleflex cable won't go back that far (I don't think) because of the transom notch. Is there an extension for the steering connection at the motor to accomodate the setback? Or am I missing something here?

If the steering cable is to short the only option is to replace it.

A replacement cable will list at around $150.00 but at the age of your boat I would replace the entire system. There you are looking at $175.00 to $225.00 at list price. Checking around you will find these discounted.

I don't think the steering cable is too short. The connection point at the front of the engine will now be behind the boat on the setback. To connect it will require a bend in the cable, which can't be done, or an extension from the connection forward the distance of the setback. I'm just thinking there must be an extension for that piece, not for the cable.

Will the steering cable go through the tilt tube?
Do you have a transom mount stand off to hold the cable?
Give me a little more info and hopefuly I can help.

I'll look more closely at it tonight. Maybe I can email you a photo of the current setup. Thanks.
