I looked in the archives and attempted to waid through all the crap and didn't really come away with a good proven method for filling spider cracks before a final coat of Awlgrip. Does anyone have a proven technique they would share? Bigshot maybe? I know you got to have done it many times. Thanks for any advice.

Take a dremal or a similar tool with a small pointed grinder and grind a V in the spider crack (make it bigger) and then fill it will marine bondo and sand then match the color. Unless you are going to repaint the entire boat and do alot of cracks then it is not worth it.

One suggestion is to use an old-fashioned bottle/can opener, the type that had a pointed semi-sharp end which was used to pierce the lid of a can.

Using this as a tool and running it down the cracks would open them up a bit and make them into a vee shape. This would allow for better repairs.

Usually these cracks have some "stuff" in them, mold or marine growth, and you have to get that out of there to get a strong repair.
