This is a frequent question. Several people have built their own seats which allows them to customize them to meet their needs. Look through Cetacea and you will see some examples. Pages 33, 41 and 43. There is one which is a 5/4 mahogany plank, and another that is a cut down transom step. This past weekend I saw the very Montauk with the fiberglass cover pictured on Cetecea 33-2. For my uses, which is occasional seating only, a platform with no back works fine, and allows the seat to be further aft than I could do with one with a back. I just finished a seat similar to Forum member Barry's seat on cetecea 41 which covers the last 20" of the boat.
