Most molds don't like ambient humidity below 60%. Try purchasing (at Wal-Mart) a digital hygrometer that can store the high value for the day (cost around 17 dollars) If you are consistantly finding high humidity than you are going to get mold/mildew. You may want to try storing your boat with a solar powered circulation fan (they have these for automobile windows) to traffic air better. Molds can also be controlled with UV light but I'm not sure this is an option for stowage. Lastly (and I am no microbiologist) yeasts in general do not like low ph. Acetic acid AKA vinegar can be useful to control candidal species on humans-I've never tried this on other molds/mildews or in boats |

Try some mildew contol bags. Starbrite makes one of the "new" generation of Aseptrol packets that does a pretty good job. When the humidity goes up the ingredients in the bag generate chlorine dioxide gas, killing the mold. |

BillB, thanks for tip on mildew killer. Great Idea for my classic cars that have been waiting too long for repair/restoration while I've been fooling around with these Darn boats. Lotta rain in NC this summer so I am looking forward to seeing that stuff die a horrible but well deserved death by poison gas. |
