I have a 1986 Outrage 18 with the original leaning post. Can anybody tell me if an RPS will use the same bolt pattern to the floor as the leaning post?

Thanks Tom. I am just trying to avoid drilling holes in that hull. |

Anthony-I am currently looking for a leaning post for my Outrage 18 would you be interested in selling it? What condition is it in? Do you have any pictures? Thanks! -Paul |

A Leaning post seems the better way to go while navigating, the rps seems to be in the way when I stand and pilot. |

Outrage 18Yes, I would sell the Leaning Post if I decide to go with the RPS. It is in good condition. I am not big on the idea about drilling holes into my hull, or spending $1200 for a new RPS from Boston Whaler. But if I decide to do so, I will let you know and send you some pics of the Leaning Post. Thanks Anthony |

For screw holes in a Whaler floor or gas tank cover no longer used, I simply buy a flat head phillips screw of same diameter, but only 1/2" long, countersink drill the floor so screw head is flush, and set screw in a little clear caulking. These look remarkably good in the non-skid, better than any patch job you could do. |

I have done exactly what LGH is sugguesting, except I use a beveled screw and a matching crown washer for a nice, finished look. |

I have both the leaning post and the rps in my 18' outrage. I change them out for seasonal NO WAKE zones. I made wooden blocks which use the leaning post holes and screwed the rps to the wooden blocks. Raising the rps a few inches actually helps to look over the console. |

That's a nice idea, George. I am a firm believer that the RPS needs to be raised at least 4". Mine is raised 6", and at that height, with the seatback reversed, it works as a leaning post for me also! |

Actually I have not finalized the design of the wooden blocks yet. I have made temporary ones out of pine scraps from a 2x6. The wood blocks can be designed also to serve double duty as cooler chocks or other gear holding device. The final will be teak but you could also use starboard for a low maintenance solution. |

Anthony, see my post from yesterday: "Alternative RPS". It's 3 or 4" higher than the classic RPS and the seat back locks in place so you can use it as a leaning post. I tried it in my 18 outrage and it's great! Brian |
