Boat came with an old Hynautic Hydraulic system. Thinking of not using it, as the reservoir is jury rigged and does not look like it will last.Would a Teleflex rotary helm be sufficient with a 140 HP motor? What cable length would be necessary?

I have a 1971 outrage with the teleflex steering going to a 140 suzuki. I haven't experience any problems. Steering is a "no feed back" system and is 3 years old. Jim |

I've got 200hp on the transom of my 21. Slight torque steer if I nail it, like when getting double skiers up, but no control problem.Don |

JayR, can't answer the cable length question. Steering was installed when motor was installed new. The boat is now under wrapes till spring. If I can get to the marina (closed till Feb.) I'll ask the mechanic. Fuel usage has been great. Its a 140 fuel injected 2 stroke. I did a trip with another 21' (same year) that was powered with a honda 130 4 stroke and only burned about 5 gallons more than the 4 stroke. I top out about 48 mph. at 5300 rpm. One problem you should be aware of is there is very little trim available. Just about 2 to 3 inches of lift before the prop will brake water. It really dosen't matter as far as ride goes but it does improve top end about 300 to 400 rpm. Jim |

Thank you gentlemen!!! 48 MPH huh!?!That's faster than I will ever want to go.... maybe I should drop down to the 115 HP $ stroke. All I want is 35 to 40 MPH. Even that, is more than I really want 95% of the time. 48 MPH..... wow!!!! |

48.....running No2?I had the same engine on a 19'(1974) and she would do about 42. Janis has a 21' with a 130 yamaha and it does an a tad over 40. |

There seems to be some doubt about the 48 mph top end I posted for my 21' outrage. This was taken from the gps. Notice I did say about 48 mph. I didn't have a chance to run it through the speed traps. This was on Barnegat Bay, no wind, flat conditions, and trimmed out. If the information provided can be useful;great. If not don't beat me up because some one had different results. That boat is nothing more than a surf board with an engine and some sides to help keep you in. It dosen't take a lot to move it. Jim |

I wasn't busting on you! I sincerely appreciate the information.Just wish I could test drive the motors on the boat before purchase.... Wishful thinking.... |

Jay R, that was not intended for you. It gets pretty techie around here someimes. I had a pair of Johnson 50 hps on the boat when I first got it. They pushed it along at a good clip. I felt I needed the extra power if I got into trouble. I very rarely run the boat past 4500 rpm. We fish from one of the worst inlets in N.J. and more than once I've needed all the power that 140 could muster. I checked my invoice for the installation of the steering but can not find a part # or cable length. Jim |

Jay - Just got back from storage....it measured 14'3". It's routed out a boot on the starboard side of the sloped transom, roughly directly behind the starboard quarter hatch. Two additional notes: Motor is mounted on a jackplate Console is raised about 4" Don |
