Any ideas for barnacle "base" removal from an outboard?

I spoke to a Petit rep yesterday at the Boston boat show on this very subject to prevent fouling of the engine mounting bracket that is on constant contact with the salt water in a slip. He suggested using Alumaspray Aerosol. He also said that the product will be coming off the market soon as it has been banned for use in the US. He said many dealers have loaded up on the item and may increase the price. Currently is sold for $25.00 for a 12 oz can. Enough for one outboard or outdrive.

I removed the barnicles by hand with a plastic paint scrapper and scrubbed with hot water and soap. I plan on applying the above mentioned product this spring.

Boaters World item #37-925-0715---------$24.99

I've had success using Starbrite Boat Bottom Cleaner/Barnacle and Zebra Mussel Remover to remove barnacles from the bracket on my outboard.

Frontier:

I've had really good luck with a product from Clean Seas, called Foul Away. 1-800-716-5547. It actually attacks and removes the "glue" which holds barnacles etc. Some sort of enzyatic action or something. Safe for gel coats, paint, f-glass, brass, rubber, aluminum, wood & steel.

Works best at above 60F.

Don't microwave it to heat it up as it will kill the active enzymes.

Removes rust, stains from algae and corrosion.
