Just installed a new commerical RubRail (Ordered from Sue) on my 64 Nauset today. Had no help, everyone working. Being a lady, I had my doubts about doing the job alone. Lucky the sun shines in Hawaii! Laid the RR out on the hot payment while setting everything up. Talk about fun and games! By the time I got around to the other side of the boat, I had it down pretty good. Clamp, countersinked three areas, then in went the screws. Tried rivets, but just to hard for me. The SS screws supplied were self tapping, making it easy. The rail is very secure. When it came to putting in the tubing down the middle. I too left that in the sun and then sprayed a little cooking oil spray (Olive oil)on the tube and just popped it in with my thumbs Looks good, but rough and ready for fishing. So glad I went with the commerical RR. Much Mahalos to this thread and all of you that have supplied such excellent info. Aloha, Rene'

LuckyLady, you deserve a post and a compliment on your accomplishment. You are my heroine. If two people have a tough time installing the Montauk three piece rail, and a woman can do the commercial alone, I'm for commercial. You have certainly heard the joke about the lothario who posts looking for a woman with many fine characteristics including boat ownership and closes with, "Please send picture of boat." Wouldn't be gentlemanly to ask for a photo of you and or you and your boat, but would be interesting to see your arm with bicep flexed into a muscle, hand into a fist, and forearm flexed. Then I could compare the photo to my good wife's arm to see if she could do the job on her Montauk. |

Gene, You made my day of The Masters even better than Mickelson wining his first major! Over the last thirty years, I've worked alone on all my boats. It's called therapy. I'm not that strong and spend a lot of time figuring out a way to do the job that does require strength and a couple extra hands. Also doing the job by yourself, you have no one to blame but yourself. Builds character. Been working almost two years (spare time) on this Whaler. Can hardly wait to slip it in the Ocean in the next couple weeks. Oh, I hope it doesn't list or is bow or stern heavy......Yo Mama! No muscles, just a fat okuli! Rene' |

Gene,Have your wife contact LuckyLady for a couple of tips and then tell her not to worry cause she won't be able to do it. Bet that Montauk is fixed up before you finish your beer. Nothing a woman hates more than to be told she can't do something, especially by a man. LuckyLady.. you go girl. |
