Looking at repowing. 135-150 hp, I was looking at Honda 4 strokes. Dealer said a 20" shaft on the back Outboard maybe too heavy and that I would get water through the scuppers when sitting. He recommended modifying the transome so that a 25" shaft could be mounted. Question I have is, that isn't going the solve the back end riding lower or am I missing something? Transome currently has a slight notch and 20" shaft mercury is on it. Anyone modified a transom to mount a 25" shaft? There is a picture of one in one of certera postings. Looking for advice to ensure any modification doesn't sacrifice structural stregth.

You're not missing anything! Use a 20" shaft and mount it as high as holes allow and if you want it higher use a set back/Jack plate. Weight is weight and all a 25" shaft will do is raise the CG and will be a pain in the a-- in the long run... Happy Whalin'... Clark .. Spruce Creek Navy
PS> Your Honda must have a 25" shaft he wants to get rid off!
