I'm replacing the old 20HP Johnson on my 11'4" with a new 4-stroke w/power tilt and trim. Because of the power tilt/trim the dealer said they need to bolt the lower part of the engine mounting bracket to the hull. Because you cannot access the "inside" of the lower transom, they have to use ss lag screws to reach the wood (if there's any there). I can't find any wood location drawings for this model. Is the lag bolt approach common? Any help would be appreciated!

My wood locating diagram for the 11 footer shows wood all the way down. Jim |

Thanks Jim -- that helps. The thought of running a lag screw, sealed or not, into the transom that low really bothers me, but I guess there's no way around it short of doing a lot of cutting and digging on the inside, and the boat is in too good of shape for me to really do that. It helps knowing that they will at least hit wood. Thanks! |
