Realrez:My first choice would be the engine manufacturer's control cables. Adapters are rarely needed for installation. I have used Teleflex "red jacket" control cables with great success. You can find them pretty cheap on e-bay. My 17-Montauk came used, with 14 foot cables run straight to the engine. When I installed a new engine, I ran the cables with the bended steering cable, and then added a 270 degree, 12 inch loop at the engine, as recommended by the engine manufacturer. Measuring this was a little tricky. I used an old cable to measure from the helm to the stern, then from that point I used the same cable to measure from the stern to the engine, including the stern bends and loop. 22 feet! |
