Hey guys I just heard that apparently if you use high octane gas for your HPDI Yamaha engine you stand a good chance of fouling up the spark plugs. The engine computer thinks the mixture is to lean and enriches it, thus fouling the plugs. The fix is to use regular low octane fuel 87 vs. 92.

see if you can find a specific gravity rating on the fuel requirements , that would make more sence then saying higher octane will cause plug fouling ! we see some fuels cause fouling in high pressure fuel system low static compression engines , but not always does it work out to be the higher octane that fouls !

Does anyone know if Yamaha uses ion sense technology in the ignition and spark plugs to detect compustion mix? If so, the calibration may be set for the lower octane fuels. This is becoming fairly common with autos and motorcycle engines. BillS
