What is the proper spark plug gap setting for a 1992 Evinrude 120-HP outboard motor?

Thanks in advance Larry

lllabry,

Which spark plug are you using? Brand? Model?

Champion plugs were recommended by OMC.
There were many different Champion plug models used in the past and some had a permanent gap, meaning non adjustable.

The current plug recommendation for the older models is the QL77JC4
Most manuals at that time suggested a .040 gap for these plugs.
Since then, the recommendation has changed to .030 gap

All of OMC ...Bombardier engines are now .030.
If your running a FICHT, do em at .028 because the ignition is so hot they will be at .040 at 50 hours.
