a friend has a 17 montauk with 80 yam 4 stroke. just now able to get it out of a prolonged period of "involuntary storage" related to the aftermath of Ivan. (boat was stranded in a lift w/ no power)
anyway, engine will not turn over, he told me he has 12v + at the battery, 3-4 volts at the engine. I assume this is due to corrosion at one or multiple sites. anyone have suggestions as to most likely culprits?
I acknowledge this is an engine, not really a whaler question. thanks

The problem is probably corrosion as you mentioned - at a connection or in the cable itself. Clean the battery terminals and then re-install and tighten those battery connectors. Check the voltage at the engine - with no corrosion, the voltage at the engine should be 12 - 13 volts. Check the resistance of both battery cables - should be nil (<5 ohms) with no corrosion. ---- Jerry/Idaho
