I've got a couple of questions about the tilt trim assembly on a mid 80s Evinrude 90HP:Can the trim/tilt motor assembly be replaced without taking the entire engine of the boat transom? If the entire Tilt/Trim motor/pump/ram assembly needs to be replaced, doed that require dismounting the engine from the transom? Any idea what a replacement trim motor goes for? Thanks, BillS

I ended up replacing my tilt motor a couple of years ago on my 1992 90hp evinrude...I think the part was about $200 and the total w/installation was about $400...I know he had to drive the two pins out in order to get the trim motor out...and I also think he had to remove the engine as well...it's been a while since then...Hope this helps... Dave... ps...for me, it was worth the $ because one resource I really don't have a lot of is time... |

The assembly should come off without removing the engine. There are 4 or 6 bolts that attach the assembly to the engine bracket. These can be removed and the assembly tilted out for access to the tilt motor. The hardest part of working on this unit may well be removing the pin from the upper ram arm where it attaches to the bottom of the engine. Mine was extremely corroded. Good luck.Al |
