I'm having a problem wth the 1999 Johnson 150 on my '71 Outrage. When running on plane a few weeks ago, the "check engine" alarm went off..which my shop manual tells me is for a fuel restriction or a vaccuum problem. It would go off after that any time the engine was started. I had a mechanic look at it; he discovered a few minor fuel drips around o-rings under the cowling when the motor was running. He ordered parts, fixed the leaks, and last weekend I was running again with no alarms. After running all weekend on either of my two tanks with no trouble, the same alarm went off again as I idled into the marina. The mechanic is looking again tomorrow but he's stumped as to the problem. Any ideas out there?
A few other facts: the fuel tanks, fuel lines, bulb, fuel filter and all fittings are new. The boat ran well using this new fuel system all summer until these recent problems. I changed the fuel filter again after the problems started, as I thought it might be clogged with debris that might have been in the new plastic tanks. The tanks are well vented. The bulb is hard when the alarm goes off...so it seems the motor is getting plenty of fuel.
Any thoughts or advice appreciated.
