I just got an 1981 Montauk 17, and she's gonna be quite the project. The first thing I'd like to tackle is the console, which was pulled up from the deck by high winds.

Should I be worried about replacing the blocks it was bolted to? Could I just drill new holes?

Thanks in advance--Mark

I did this on my Montauk when I had it. I replaced the wood with 1/4-inch aluminum angle pieces on both side. I screwed them down to the deck with 3M 5200 and let it setup. Then I mounted the console back down to the angle aluminum. I still used the teak strips on the outside and used screws with locknuts.

You might consider raising the console a few inches while in the process of re-installing it. Many find the console height to be a little low.
