Alas, the windscreen on my beloved 1968 Eastport has proven to be rotted beyond minor repair, and I am looking for advise on replacing it. I have neither the skills to build a new one myself nor I fear the available cash to have someone else build a new one for me. So my question is, does anyone know of an inexpensive replacement windscreen from another center console that fits our console base? I hate to give up that classic profile, but I actually wouldn't mind a taller screen. It could either fit along the outside of our console or sit on top of the console with a few blocks of wood to tie it down. Any ideas? Thanks

I believe your windshield is made from 3/4" Marine mahogany plywood. It would not be expensive to reproduce. Now the solid mahogany windshield on the earlier boats would be very expensive. Take the winshield apart, take the glass out of it and bring the pieces to a builder of wooden boats, or a woodworking shop and ask him to reproduce it. Do the varnish work yourself to save some $. You can have a solid plexiglass one made to follow the contours of the old windshield, but that might not be cheap, or you can go to a Marine salvege yard and find something that would fit, but you would seriously devaluate your boat. The windshield shape gave that boat its unique look. |
